Job Title: Accountant – Contracts Administration
Reports To: Senior Accountant
Temporary to Hire: (Evaluation Hire) -- Long term position!
Pay: $22.00/hr, pay should increase upon hiring permanently
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Position Summary:
This position involves highly technical and responsible professional work in maintaining and ensuring the accurate completion of fiscal records for the client’s programs and services. The role requires a high degree of independence in technical functions while operating under guidance on matters involving policy or deviations from established procedures.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Administer all agency contracts, including those with the Department of Mental Health (DMH), subcontracts with local and statewide Mental Health Centers (MHCs), foster homes, nursing homes, and Children’s Services agreements with DHR, Family Court, Boards of Education, and other entities.
  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and data for input into accounts payable and the general ledger; compile financial data for presentation to external auditors.
  • Ensure accuracy of general ledger accounts related to contract payables and receivables.
  • Process staff mileage reimbursement requests and prepare disbursements twice monthly.
  • Track contract billing and monitor payments received.
  • Assist with preparation and monitoring of the annual operating budget.
  • Complete special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in accounting functions, preferably within a community mental health or non-profit human services environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Proficiency in preparing and interpreting detailed financial reports and statements.
  • Familiarity with automated accounting systems and spreadsheet applications.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively represent the client in external interactions.
