Our client, a specialty manufacturing company based in Carmel, IN, is growing and seeking a hands-on Assembly & Product Modification Technician to support production operations. This is a job shop environment with a wide variety of projects where you’ll use mechanical ability, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving to assemble, modify, and inspect hardware components.

  • Hours: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Benefits: Competitive benefits package offered by the client

What You Will Do as an Assembly & Product Modification Technician

  • Assemble hardware products and subassemblies using written instructions, drawings, and blueprints.
  • Perform custom modifications to ensure our hardware integrates seamlessly with competitor products, including cutting, drilling, tapping, milling, and precision fitting of small metal parts.
  • Create simple fixtures or jigs to hold or index parts for repeatable machining and assembly steps—either from your own sketches or from engineering concepts.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to interpret sketches, adapt parts, and resolve technical challenges.
  • Conduct final quality inspections to ensure accuracy, fit, and functional performance.
  • Safely handle materials, maintain an organized workstation, and support overall production flow.
  • Apply strong judgment and initiative to “connect the dots” and figure out new or unfamiliar tasks with minimal supervision.

Tools & Processes You Will Use as an Assembly & Product Modification Technician

  • Common hand tools and shop machinery: drill press, mill, saws, tapping tools, deburring tools, measuring tools, and basic fixturing supplies.
  • Blueprint and sketch interpretation, shop math, layout, and standard quality inspection practices.

What You Bring

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort with cutting, drilling, tapping, and light milling.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems creatively, including making or modifying fixtures.
  • Experience with hands-on assembly and following written work instructions or blueprints.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach with willingness to assist across the production floor.

If you enjoy a mix of assembly, machining, hands-on problem solving, and custom modifications that make products work across multiple systems, this role is for you.
