Heavy Equipment Maintenance Mechanic
Pay: $30.00 per hour Job Type: Full-Time Industry: Mining / Aggregate / Heavy Equipment
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Maintenance Mechanic to maintain and repair mobile heavy equipment and plant machinery. This is a hands-on position requiring strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and experience using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, including oil and filter changes
- Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mobile equipment breakdowns
- Maintain records of preventive maintenance and major equipment rebuilds
- Schedule and assist with major equipment repairs and rebuilds
- Repair or replace defective mechanical components using hand and power tools
- Dismantle equipment to access and remove damaged or defective parts
- Use hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools during equipment repairs
- Inspect parts for wear, damage, and other defects
- Use measuring instruments to inspect parts and determine dimensional changes
- Adjust mechanical components and control devices as needed
- Install specialty functional and structural components
- Lubricate and clean equipment and mechanical parts
- Test repaired equipment to ensure proper operation
- Maintain appropriate oil, fuel, antifreeze, parts, and accessory supplies
- Maintain a clean and organized maintenance work area
- Perform welding, cutting/burning, rigging, and related maintenance duties
- Assist with additional maintenance duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a heavy equipment, diesel, industrial, or mobile equipment mechanic
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills
- Experience with hand tools, power tools, hoists, and related maintenance equipment
- Ability to diagnose equipment problems based on operation, sound, and inspection
- Welding and cutting/burning experience preferred
- Knowledge of crane hand signals and proper rigging procedures
- Ability to safely work around heavy machinery and active plant operations
- Strong attention to safety and preventive maintenance
Physical Requirements
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and access heavy equipment
- Ability to walk, bend, reach, twist, and perform physically demanding mechanical work
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Must be comfortable working around noise, dust, fuel fumes, welding gases, and active equipment
- Some work on plant machinery may require working at heights of up to 70 feet
Tools
Mechanics are expected to provide the standard tools necessary to remove and install mobile equipment parts and accessories. Specialized instruments or tools that are rarely required will be provided.
Safety
This position operates in a mining/aggregate environment and requires strict adherence to MSHA and company safety requirements, including proper rigging, crane signaling, and safe equipment maintenance procedures.
Pay: $30.00 per hour
