A local industrial painting and construction company is seeking a Project Estimator with a background in mechanical or manufacturing engineering to join their team. This role is ideal for a technically minded professional with prior estimating experience in an industrial or commercial setting—particularly someone who can interpret blueprints, analyze specifications, communicate with vendors, and assemble accurate job estimates. Prior experience in industrial painting is a plus, but not required.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret architectural and mechanical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files to prepare comprehensive project estimates.
- Analyze scope of work and coordinate with internal teams to ensure accuracy of take-offs and labor/material requirements.
- Contact vendors and subcontractors for pricing on materials, services, and equipment.
- Develop and present cost estimates, budgets, and timelines for industrial painting and coatings projects.
- Assist project managers and sales teams in bid preparation, proposal submissions, and job planning.
- Conduct occasional site visits across Central Alabama and surrounding regions to support bid accuracy and client relations.
- Maintain historical cost data and improve cost estimation procedures and tools.
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field OR equivalent combination of technical training and hands-on experience.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in project estimating, preferably in industrial or commercial construction.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with construction estimating tools and CAD software.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Self-starter who can manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience
- Background in industrial coatings, painting, or surface preparation projects.
- Understanding of ISO and QP certification standards.
- Familiarity with coating types, surface prep methods, and environmental compliance factors.
Travel
Limited regional travel is expected to client sites and project locations within Central Alabama and surrounding areas.
