Here's What Your Day-to-Day Looks Like:
An industrial maintenance technician’s day typically begins with a team meeting or shift handover to review work orders, maintenance schedules, and any ongoing issues from the previous shift. The technician then carries out preventive maintenance tasks such as inspecting, lubricating, and cleaning machinery, as well as replacing worn parts to prevent breakdowns. Throughout the day, they respond to equipment malfunctions by diagnosing mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues and performing necessary repairs or adjustments. Monitoring equipment performance using diagnostic tools is also a key part of the role, ensuring machines operate efficiently. Technicians strictly follow safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, to maintain compliance with regulations. At the end of the shift, they document completed work, report unresolved problems, and prepare tools and parts for the next team.
