Here's What Your Day-to-Day Looks Like:

A lathe operator is a skilled tradesperson responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining lathes, which are machines used to shape metal, wood, or plastic parts by rotating the workpiece against various cutting tools. They read and interpret technical blueprints and specifications to ensure precise measurements and product quality. Their duties include selecting appropriate tools, adjusting machine settings, inspecting finished products for accuracy, and performing routine maintenance on equipment. Lathe operators must have strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and knowledge of machining processes and safety protocols to produce high-quality components used in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and other industries.

Schedule & Pay:

FULL TIME; Mon-Fri 8-4:30pm
$32-39/hr
Willingness to work overtime if needed

Here's What Makes YOU a Great Fit:

  • Mechanical aptitude: Understanding how machines work and how different materials behave during machining is essential.
  • Precision and attention to detail: Lathe operators must work with tight tolerances, so accuracy in measurements and setups is critical.
  • Blueprint reading and interpretation: The ability to read technical drawings and understand dimensions, tolerances, and machining symbols is necessary for producing correct parts.
  • Mathematical skills: Basic math and knowledge of geometry and trigonometry help in calculating dimensions, speeds, and feeds.
  • Manual dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination and steady hands are important for handling tools and materials accurately.
  • Problem-solving skills: Operators need to identify and correct machine malfunctions or process issues quickly.
  • Computer literacy: Familiarity with CNC (Computer Numerical Control) programming or operating digital interfaces is increasingly important.
  • Safety awareness: Understanding and following safety procedures is crucial to prevent accidents in a machine shop environment.
