Fabricator / Welder – Bessemer, AL

A growing structural steel fabrication facility in the Bessemer area is seeking a skilled Fabricator/Welder who takes pride in precision, safety, and craftsmanship. This is a hands-on position with direct involvement in building high-quality structural steel assemblies. The right person will bring solid welding and fitting experience and a strong work ethic, joining a team that’s focused on quality, efficiency, and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols
  • Lay out, measure, cut, and fit steel components including beams, HSS, channels, angles, and plate
  • Perform MIG welding using GMAW/FCAW processes (knowledge of AWS D1.1 practices a plus)
  • Set up and operate fabrication equipment such as welding machines, saws, hand tools, and fixtures
  • Assemble and square structures with proper joint prep, fit-up, and weld sequencing
  • Move and position material safely using overhead cranes and forklifts
  • Perform visual inspection of welds and dimensions to ensure parts meet drawing tolerances
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean, safe condition
  • Follow all safety rules and OSHA standards

Qualifications

Required:

  • 3–5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication and welding
  • Ability to read and work from structural drawings
  • Proficiency in MIG welding
  • Skilled in layout, measuring, and using fabrication tools (square, levels, torches, grinders)
  • Dependable, safety-minded, and able to work both independently and as part of a team

Preferred:

  • Welding certification (AWS D1.1 or equivalent)
  • Rigging experience (chains, slings, spreader bars)
  • Forklift certification

Work Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, day shift
  • Full-time position
