2nd Shift Lead – CNC Machinist or Welder

Location: Freehold, NJ
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 4:00 PM – 12:30 AM
Pay: $43 – $55/hour + Overtime
Job Type: Full-Time | Onsite | Non-Exempt
Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

Lead the Way in Precision Manufacturing

Are you an experienced CNC machinist or welder with leadership skills and a passion for quality? We’re looking for a Second Shift Lead to oversee and participate in high-precision manufacturing operations in our state-of-the-art facility in Freehold, NJ.

This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in producing precision components that meet exacting standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise second shift team members across CNC machining and welding operations.
• Plan and coordinate production flow; fill in for first-shift leadership when needed.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, and GD&T specs.
• Perform machine programming, setup, and adjustments for CNC machines or welding equipment.
• Troubleshoot equipment and optimize processes to ensure high first-pass yield and throughput.
• Conduct in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, and welding gauges.
• Record job data and labor hours accurately using shop floor software.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, quality standards, and production schedules.
• Maintain organization and cleanliness of tools, equipment, and workstations.

Required Qualifications

• 4–6+ years of hands-on experience in CNC machining or welding within a precision manufacturing setting.
• Previous experience in a team lead, supervisor, or shift coordinator role.
• Strong working knowledge of:
  • Machine programming and setup
  • Welding procedures (MIG, TIG, stick)
  • Blueprint reading and tolerancing
  • Quality control and inspection techniques
• Ability to work independently and make fast, sound decisions under pressure.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement concepts.

Tools & Equipment

• CNC vertical/horizontal mills and lathes
• Manual machining tools
• Welding machines (MIG, TIG, Stick)
• Forklifts, overhead cranes, pallet jacks
• Precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, weld gauges)
• Shop floor data systems and production tracking software

Physical Requirements

• Stand for extended periods; frequent bending, lifting, and kneeling
• Lift parts and tools weighing up to 50 lbs
• Exposure to noise, welding fumes, metalworking fluids, and airborne particles
• Required PPE: safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, welding mask
