Job Description

Huntington Bank is seeking a data modeler in our Data Technology organization. In this role you will lead a team dedicated to pushing the limits of continuous improvement and innovation using data solutions as a lever. As the Senior Data Modeler, you will report to the Director of Data Architecture, and work closely with the Chief Data & Architecture Office and Customer Master initiatives to support and enable the delivery of strategic value for Huntington. If you consider data as a strategic asset, evangelize the value of good data and insights, are an experienced thought-leader in data platforms, have deep understanding of data modeling, and love building data platforms, this role is for you. You will be responsible for defining and managing critical data structures, including supporting current needs, innovating on new ways to work with data, and enabling next-generation capabilities. You will partner with the Data Technology organization and CDAO staff to enable an effective data ecosystem, as well as key leaders in business and technology to understand and support their needs. Your primary responsibility will be to gather business requirements and translate these into logical data models. You will also be responsible for creation of technical design specifications including source to target mapping documentation for ETL developers. You should be well versed with indexing and partitioning methodologies, tuning for query performance. You should also be familiar with new ways of modeling and integrating data using next-generation platforms and tools and help the organization innovate in your space.

Detailed Description:

  • Conduct and lead discussions with business leads and SMEs to understand and document the scope and business requirements, and translate these into the technical design
  • Interface with key stakeholders to define, analyze, and deliver requirements that reflect the needs of the business, and translate to detailed design specifications
  • Lead in the creation, development, implementation, configuration, maintenance, and support of data models for databases, data marts, and data warehouses
  • Develop methods to store, organize, and report data and incorporate development operations automation where appropriate
  • Collaborate on the definition, development, and maintenance of standards and processes
  • Proactively investigate and troubleshoot technical challenges, and direct corrective action
  • Identify potential design, process and/or system changes to optimize performance, and mitigate risks
  • Research, troubleshoot, and resolve data issues impacting report and data delivery
  • Adhere to and inform data architecture processes, standards and guidelines

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Min 5 years of IT experience, with 3 years expertise in creating logical, physical and conceptual data models and hands-on-experience with data modeling technology such as Erwin

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of applying data architecture patterns, including creating OLTP (normalized) and EDW (dimensional) models based on business and technical requirements
  • Expert knowledge of database and data programming languages, including relational, dimensional and 'big data' database concepts
  • Advanced knowledge in developing data models compliant with non-functional enterprise requirements, such as security and performance guidelines
  • Working knowledge in the creation of data infrastructure - such as views, stored procedures, ETL usage, real-time/streaming data integration
  • Proven ability in working with and leading the development efforts of other team members with minimal supervision
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills for interacting and collaborating with developers, analysts, and business staff throughout the organization
  • B.S./B.A. in computer science, management information systems
  • Experience with NoSQL and related next-generation data modeling approaches
  • Experience with cloud and virtualization technology, related to data storage, integration and distribution/access on-/off-premise and hybrids
  • Experience with enterprise data management and governance tools
  • Experience with supporting non-functional data standards and guidelines, such as security, partitioning, performance tuning, configuration management, etc.
